Cardo's integrated Packtalk systems for the HJC helmet range are officially on their way to New Zealand.

If there is one piece of kit we’ve relied on more than most over the last decade, it’s our Cardo Systems units. We’ve hammered them through Kiwi winters, dusty summer tours, and everything in between, and they've never let us down. So, with a couple of us in the office currently eyeing up new lids, the timing of Cardo’s latest announcement couldn't be better.

Cardo has officially teamed up with the legends at HJC Helmets to launch a new range of integrated communication systems. For those of us who love Cardo’s tech but are tiring of the "brick-on-the-side-of-the-head" look, this is the news we’ve been waiting for.

Seamless Integration, No Compromises

The new partnership brings two dedicated units to the HJC lineup: the HJC 4X and the HJC Spirit. Unlike universal units that clamp onto the shell, these are designed to tuck away into the helmet’s factory recesses, preserving the aerodynamics and the sharp styling HJC is known for.

"By adapting our proven communication platforms into an integrated solution for HJC helmets, we’re delivering a system that feels like a natural extension of the helmet itself," says Shachar Harari, Cardo VP of Business Development.

For us as consumers, that means no more struggling to find the perfect mounting position that not only allows access but also doesn't create extra wind noise on the left side of your helmet. To us that's a big win and a fix for one of our only minor complaints with our previous Cardo units.

The Lineup

HJC 4X – The Premium All-Rounder This is the one for those who head out with a small crew. Based on Cardo’s higher-end tech, it features:

  • Sound by JBL: 40mm speakers for actual bass while you ride.

  • Natural Voice Operation: Just say "Hey Cardo" and keep your hands on the bars. We've tested this over the years and it actually works!

  • Four-Way Intercom: A 1.2km range for up to four riders.

  • Battery Life: Up to 13 hours of talk time.

HJC Spirit – The Daily Commuter Perfect for those who just want to chat with a pillion or stream music on the way to work.

  • Bluetooth Intercom: Stable rider-to-passenger connectivity.

  • HD Speakers: 40mm drivers for clear audio.

  • Battery Life: Up to 10 hours of talk time.

Which Helmets Get the Tech?

If you’re shopping for a new lid, the list of compatible HJC models covers something for everyone from top-tier RPHA race and touring lids to the more budget-friendly i-series:

  • RPHA Series: RPHA 31, 60, 71/71C, 91/91C

  • F Series: F31, F71/F71C

  • i Series: i71, i91

Pricing and Availability

The units are set to be available in the coming months with pricing currently indicated (but importantly not finalised in these turbulent times) to be cheaper than the stand alone versions which will also add to the appeal if like us you're already eying up a new HJC helmet.

Given our nearly ten-year track record with the brand, we’re itching to get one of these integrated units into a new HJC helmet and see if it lives up to that "factory finish" promise.

Stay tuned for a full review once we’ve spent some time living with one.
