Triumph Makes History with Dominant 1-2 Finish at MXGP of France

Triumph Motorcycles’ Factory Racing Team continues to prove they mean business in the dirt world, securing a historic, dominant showing at round six of the MX2 World Championship in Lacapelle-Marival, France.
Spaniard Guillem Farres dominated the proceedings, capturing his first-ever career Grand Prix victory with a flawless 1-1 result aboard his Triumph TF 250-X. Compounding the celebrations, teammate Camden McLellan joined Farres on the box in second overall, locking down a monumental 1-2 finish for the British manufacturer.
Following an unusual five-week mid-season break, the MX2 paddock fired back into life, but it was clear that the Triumph squad used the downtime to perfection.
Farres Untouchable in France
Aside from a minor slip-up in Saturday's qualifying race, Farres was near-perfect across the entire weekend. In the opening moto, the 23-year-old launched from a third-place start, quickly slicing into the lead within the opening laps. From there, he looked untouchable, controlling the pace from the front to take a definitive race win.
Moto two proved to be a much tighter affair. Farres again started third, trailing teammate McLellan and early leader Janis Reisulis. After slipping past McLellan on lap two, Farres bided his time on the difficult-to-pass French circuit. With only three laps remaining, he executed a precise move for the lead. Despite intense pressure from a charging McLellan through the final corners, Farres held his nerve to cross the line first, securing the perfect weekend.
Guillem Farres: “It was an incredible day for me to finally secure my first overall Grand Prix victory! The whole team has worked so hard for this moment. In the second moto, the track was quite difficult for overtaking, so I stayed close and tried to force a mistake. With about five minutes to go, I managed to make the pass."
The maximum 50-point haul has drastically altered Farres' championship outlook. While he remains third in the MX2 World Championship standings, he has effectively halved his deficit to series leader Simon Laengenfelder, bringing the gap down to just 20 points.
McLellan Backs It Up
Camden McLellan was equally impressive, putting together a stellar 3-2 scorecard to ensure Triumph locked out the top two steps of the overall podium.
After fighting through the pack from a mediocre start in moto one to claim third, the South African capitalised on a much sharper start in the second race. McLellan shadowed Farres for the duration of the moto, pulling alongside his teammate twice but just missing out on the passing opportunities. The performance keeps McLellan solid in fifth place in the overall standings.
Adding a final feather to the Hinckley brand's cap, Dirt Store Triumph’s Billy Askew made a highly respectable MX2 class debut, finishing 19-16 for 17th overall.
Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager, Vincent Bereni, noted that the break acted like a mini winter testing block, and the development work has clearly paid off.
Vincent Bereni: "To come away with 1-1 for Guillem and 3-2 for Camden for first and second overall is incredible. We’ve made a little bit of history here. We just need to stay focused, keep working hard, and keep the momentum going because we’re right back in championship contention.”
The MX2 championship now heads straight to Teutschenthal for the MXGP of Germany on May 30-31.
