Cardo Supercharges Group Rides With Free ‘Mesh Boost’ Update

Cardo Systems has just dropped a major free over-the-air software update for its 2nd-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC) units—and it’s set to make massive group rides a whole lot easier to manage.
Dubbed ‘Mesh Boost’, the headline feature expands DMC group capacity from 15 up to a massive 31 riders and passengers, claiming the title of the largest group comms capacity in the industry.
Beyond expanding the headcount, the update introduces two clever new features via the Cardo Connect App:
Public Mesh: Enables quick, spontaneous communication with nearby DMC users within range without needing a formal group setup—ideal when bumping into other groups on the trail or road.
Remote Grouping: Allows ride leaders to generate a link in the app to set up the group ahead of time. Once everyone arrives and comes into range, the units pair automatically.
Kill the 'Cardo Dance' Before You Even Roll Out
If you've ever spent fifteen minutes standing around in a petrol station car park on a freezing Sunday morning—everyone tapping helmets, holding down buttons, and doing the familiar "Cardo dance" to get a massive group synced up—this update is the real game-changer.
With the new Remote Grouping feature, the ride leader can set up the DMC group days in advance right from their lounge. You simply generate a group link in the Cardo Connect App and fire it into your WhatsApp or Messenger group chat. Everyone clicks the link, accepts the invite, and as soon as helmets click on and riders pull into range at the meetup spot, the units automatically pair up into the mesh. No manual button-mashing, no standing around, and no holding up the group start.
What Does This Mean For Us?
Having lived with the PACKTALK Edge for a while now, we're particularly stoked about this update. On 2nd-gen units like the PACKTALK PRO, Edge, and NEO, Mesh Boost unlocks the full suite of new features straight out of the box—giving us full access to the 31-rider capacity, Public Mesh, and Remote Grouping.
For those running integrated setups like our new HJC Cardo 4X, the benefits are slightly different. While the 4X operates on Cardo's Bluetooth platform rather than full DMC, the updated ecosystem and refreshed Cardo Connect App still streamline how we manage device settings and link up with the broader group on ride days.
If you're running older 1st-generation Packtalk units, don't worry—you aren't left behind entirely. Legacy devices remain compatible and can still join groups led by Mesh Boost-updated riders, though they won't natively host the new extended features themselves.
How to Get It
The Mesh Boost update is rolling out now as a free over-the-air update through the Cardo Connect App for all eligible 2nd-gen devices (PACKTALK PRO, EDGE, and NEO).
(Note: Brand-specific integrated units like Harley-Davidson and Schuberth SC-EDGE are scheduled to receive their update in Q4, while previously hinted features like Private Chat+ and Cellular Intercom remain in development for a future release.)
