Indian's latest Chief Vintage might be the best-looking bike out of the Americas of 2026

In a year where its main rival once again disappoints with its "new" offerings, Indian Motorcycle has pulled one out of the hat with its newest 2026 model, with the Indian Chief Vintage already well on the way to claiming the "World's Most Beautiful Bike" gong for the year.
Let's take a closer look.

According to Indian Motorcycle, the 2026 Chief Vintage is "honouring its heritage by reimagining a timeless classic into a new icon for today’s riders," and it looks like they've nailed it with a stunning old school look backed up by Indian's touchscreen Ride Command dash.
Visually, the new Chief Vintage is heavily inspired by the 1940s Chief, and features flowing valanced fenders and an unmistakable silhouette pay tribute to Indian Motorcycle’s roots, while the Thunderstroke 116 engine delivers the power and presence thanks to its stunningly sculpted detailing and 156Nm of peak torque.
“The Indian Chief from the 1940s remains one of the most recognisable and celebrated motorcycles in American history,” said Ola Stenegärd, Design Director for Indian Motorcycle. “With its iconic V-Twin engine, valanced fenders, and unparalleled reliability, the Chief set a standard for performance and design that resonates today. It represents the spirit of Indian Motorcycle – bold, timeless, and always pushing forward.”
With the Indian Motorcycle name now in its 125th year, the Chief Vintage joins the lineup offering a truly heritage-inspired option without fumbling the implementation of modern amenities.

At the centre of this is the Thunderstroke 116 - the latest in Indian's beautifully styled v-twin engines. Featuring heritage in every detail, the finish on the Chief Vintage’s Thunderstroke engine captures the spirit of 1940s craftsmanship with non-machined black cylinders and silver-painted cylinder heads and pushrod tubes. These painted components and non-machined fins pay tribute to the raw aluminium finishes found on the original Chief models.
With sculpted lines that pay homage to post-war classics, Chief Vintage looks as though it rolled straight off the original Springfield, Massachusetts, production line in the 1940s. Its unmistakable Indian Motorcycle valanced front fender is complemented by the iconic lit headdress ornament, while a narrow rear subframe and vintage handlebars reference the era’s timeless designs. The bike’s vintage solo seat is reimagined for superior comfort and ergonomic support, while wire-spoke wheels complete the timeless design.

Keeping the Chief Vintage firmly in the 21st Century, however, is the tastefully implemented RIDE COMMAND system, which is found across Indian's modern range. This touchscreen TFT display measures just 101mm in diameter but packs in the features, including allowing the rider to navigate between three rider modes (Tour, Standard, and Sport) as well as navigate the roads thanks to Indian's new Indian Motorcycle’s App Enhanced Navigation. This new feature allows riders to intuitively search for destinations on their phone via platforms like Google Maps, Waze and Apple Maps and send them directly to their bike’s display.
The 2026 Indian Chief Vintage is due to arrive in the New Zealand and Australian markets in the middle of 2026, with pricing yet to be announced.
If we had the opportunity, we'd definitely love to swing a leg over the Indian Chief Vintage to experience this near-perfect looking blend of old and new Americana.
