Details for the North Island’s longest running motorcycle rally, Ruapehu Motorcycle Club’s annual Cold Kiwi, have been announced for the 2019 running of the event.
The Cold Kiwi will return for the 44th time this year the weekend of August 30 to September 2 for the traditional Father’s Day weekend calendar slot.
For those who have never been, the Cold Kiwi should be one of those 'bucket list' weekends that you just need to experience to fully appreciate. Sure, the weather can be damp, the temperatures nigh on freezing, but the camaraderie is second to none.
We attended the 2017 event and had an absolute blast despite the epic quagmire that now has fans fearing a return for to the Horopito hillside. Thankfully, after it was quickly ditched in favour of the new site near Waiouru, things appear to be locked in for the foreseeable future.
With the success of the 2018 Rally site near Waiouru, the Ruapehu Motorcycle Club has confirmed the Cold Kiwi will return to the same venue for 2019.
Events for the weekend range from scorching hot bonfires at night, to burnout competitions during the day with plenty more to keep you busy. Plus, as always there is a licensed bar on site to keep the amber liquid (or whatever your poison) flowing to help keep you warm.
Tickets and merchandise for the 44th edition of the Cold Kiwi go on sale next month via the coldkiwi.co.nz website.
