2020 Cold Kiwi Rally Cancelled

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Cold Kiwi Motorcycle Rally 2017
The Cold Kiwi Rally traditionally is held under the gaze of Mt Ruapehu.

It seems that despite all the improvements the nation is making in the fight against Covid-19, some of our greatest institutions are still suffering the impacts of the pandemic.

Adding to the growing list of events that are not running in 2020 seems a near daily occurrence, with the iconic Cold Kiwi the latest casualty.

The Cold Kiwi community was informed this morning of the sad news that the 45th running off the event will be postponed until 2021.

Dion Weedon - Ruapehu Motorcycle Club President - posted the bad news to the Cold Kiwi Facebook group.

Covid Stole The Kiwi.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am regretfully informing everyone that the Ruapehu Motorcycle Club has come to a decision that the 2020 Cold Kiwi rally will be CANCELLED, due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid19.
Despite the latest updates, we have chosen to err on the side of caution and hold our 45th Rally in 2021.
We realise this announcement will be disappointing for a lot of you but we would rather make sure Covid19 has well and truly been kicked in the butt and have a bigger and better rally next year.
The Club has collectively decided that the risk outweighs the gain in more ways than one.
Along side other concerns, most importantly we do not want the rally to be potential cause of any Covid19 cases when we all know it only takes 1!!
It's very hard to plan such a big event when so much is still up in the air.
This was no easy decision and we hope you understand.
There is NO doubt that we will be back next year and we hope you all are too.
We realise there are a lot of different view points out there about everything but we ask that you all are respectful of the Club's decision and of other's opinions.
Thank you so much for your continuing support. We are positively looking forward to seeing you all in 2021.

The Cold Kiwi is traditionally held the weekend of Father’s Day each year in the countryside surrounding Mt Ruapehu.

With the announcement that the 45th Running of the event is postponed until 2021, we expect to see the next Rally take place the weekend of the 3rd to 5th if September 2021.
