UPDATED: In a move we're getting a little too used to, the organisers of the 2021 Shiny Side Up Bike Fest in Auckland have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event in our largest city along with a series of other events.
The cancellation comes on the heels of Auckland City going into a mandatory three day (Alert Level 3) lockdown after three cases of Covid-19 were found in the community.
The initial announcement was made via the New Zealand Motorcycle Show Facebook page with an announcement stating the following:
"Unfortunately due to the new COVID-19 levels, Shiny Side Up have made the difficult decision to cancel the Auckland Shiny Side Up Bike Fest which includes the NZ Motorcycle Ride 'n' Shine set to be held this Saturday."
Shiny Side Up later confirmed that the Auckland event was indeed cancelled, along with the Kerikeri, Hamilton, Greymouth and Queenstown events.
With the event set to take place at the Trust Arena in Henderson this weekend, the next Shiny Side Up Bike Fest event is scheduled to take place in New Plymouth on February 23rd.
Our response to Level 2 & 3:
We are committed to keeping our country safe and following all instructions from Ministry of Health and NZ Government. This means we must make some changes to the 2021 tour. We’re going to keep the wheels turning as long as it’s safe to do and we can deliver the experience you expect.
The following events have been cancelled:
Auckland Bike Fest
Kerikeri Mini Bike Fest
Hamilton Talk Series Event
Greymouth Talk Series
Queenstown Talk Series
We are planning an online event for those who may miss out this year. Stay tuned for more information.
The following events are going ahead at this time:
New Plymouth Talk Series 23 Feb
Rotorua Talk Series 25 Feb
Tauranga Talk Series 2 Mar
Napier Talk Series 6 Mar
Kapiti Bike Fest 7 Mar
Please keep an eye on our Facebook page or www.shinysideup.co.nz for further developments.
